Jump you say is a dance floor song.
It began with a bass riff onto which I laid another bass riff and then another.
Don't know why, it just turned out that way.
Anyway. I had been wanting to try to write a disco/ dance number and so I thought about the way I would like it to sound.
Inspired by Bowie (as always...who isn't?) I thought of Let's Dance and DJ and
Jump they say (which is why I began singing jump you say).
I wanted it to be poppy but a little dark. I am a DJ has that sort of dark quality. Thinking about that, I thought of a DJ waiting for the night, the day being too light and unnerving for him. Instead, he waits for the night to entertain the crowd; waits for the darkness of the club and the anonymity of club life. This is the place he feels most comfortable and full of power, as do the people dancing. So when he says JUMP- everybody jumps.
The crowd are on his side and have that felling of oneness, of a moment. So, when they say JUMP everybody jumps.
When he says hit the floor they go to war (meaning they give it their all)
and when he say dance, they dance.
Life is bleak and miserable compared to the mysterious night life of the club for both the DJ and the crowd. so, they forget the life devoid of bliss and forge a reality in the club and to the music. Nothing can be more real than this!
